OUR STORY

In March of 1981, a group of believers felt led of God to begin an independent, holiness church in the Coshocton area. Seventy-five attended the very first meeting at the Keene Grange Hall on Sunday afternoon, March 29, 1981.  At this time, C.E. Easterday was asked to serve as the spiritual leader until a pastor could be called. By the majority of the organizing church body, Coshocton Christian Tabernacle was adopted as the official church name on April 19, 1981 and incorporated on April 20, 1981.

On May 3, 1981 a move was made to Pleasant Valley Elementary School.  C.E. Easterday was given a unanimous call to be the pastor of Coshocton Christian Tabernacle. In June 1981, we purchased a building along with an adjacent house for $207,000.  The building (located at 355 Brown’s Lane, Coshocton) had served as a John Deere dealership and was in need of much work.  The people banded together to clean, paint, and renovate the building.  The first worship service in the new building was held on June 28, 1981.

Many exciting additions were made to the building in the years to follow.  A new lighting system for the sanctuary and a west wing with restrooms were added in the summer of 1982.  New pews were installed on October 17, 1983.  We purchased our first professional sound system in the summer of ‘84.  The east wing and a new heating and cooling system was installed late in 1984.  The children attending VBS in ‘90 raised enough money to build a picnic shelter.  Our fellowship hall would be constructed in 1995.

In 1999 we purchased 19 acres located on Airport Road in the anticipation of relocating in the future.  We started Coshocton Christian School in 2000.  We broke ground on a new facility on Airport Rd. in October of 2003 and moved into our new facility on August 14, 2005.
